Ukhrul, August 31, 2026: The Ukhrul District Sports Association (UDSA) on Monday laid the foundation stone for its new office at Wino Tang, Ukhrul, marking an important milestone in strengthening sports administration and development in the district.
The foundation stone-laying ceremony was attended by sports representatives, community leaders and members of the association. The programme was moderated by Khayui Raleng, Joint Secretary of UDSA, while the opening prayer was led by Pengmayong Shangh, Coach of UDSA.
Addressing the gathering, Sword Vashum, President of Tangkhul Naga Long, described the occasion as “a blessing from God” and reflected on the responsibility of the present generation towards the future of young people.

While acknowledging the progress made by society in terms of material and worldly development, he stressed the need for greater improvement in the community’s mindset, vision and collective approach towards building a better future.
He expressed concern over the limited opportunities and spaces available for young people to develop and realise their potential in Ukhrul. Calling upon elders to reflect on their responsibilities, Vashum urged the community to work with greater commitment, collective responsibility and a long-term vision for sustainable development.
Alfred Kannangam S. Arthur, MP and President of UDSA, said the proposed office should not merely serve as an administrative facility but also become a source of income that would help the association move towards self-sustainability.
“Let it be for UDSA, This is our district and our people,” he said, emphasising the collective ownership and responsibility of the people towards the growth of sports in the district.
Arthur further stressed that sports should become a way of life for the younger generation, promoting discipline, dedication and positive values. He envisioned the new office as a legacy centre that would serve future generations and contribute to the long-term development of sports in Ukhrul.
He also acknowledged the support and contributions of sponsors, elders and well-wishers, and called for continued collective efforts to strengthen UDSA and take sports development in the district to greater heights.
The foundation stone was formally laid by HA. Khayaiwo, Headman of Ukhrul/Hunphun Village, marking the beginning of the establishment of a dedicated office for the district’s apex sports body.
The new UDSA office is expected to play an important role in strengthening the administration, coordination and promotion of sporting activities in Ukhrul district, while also creating a stronger institutional foundation for nurturing future sporting talent.
