UKHRUL, August 10: Thirty-five youths from Ukhrul have completed a three-day residential MY Bharat Leadership BootCamp, gaining practical exposure to leadership, career planning, financial literacy, democratic participation and community engagement.
Organised by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) from August 8 to 10 at the District Youth Skilling Center, the programme sought to equip young people with knowledge and practical skills relevant to their personal, professional and social development.
The BootCamp was conducted under the leadership of A.C. Worchipem, Deputy Director, whose guidance and support facilitated the programme.
The sessions brought together resource persons from different professional backgrounds, exposing participants to government schemes, career opportunities, leadership, personality development, financial management, digital literacy and democratic institutions.
T. Themreiyo Awungshi, General Manager, District Industries Centre (DIC), spoke on Flagship Government Schemes, familiarising participants with government initiatives relating to education, entrepreneurship, employment and skill development.
A session on Career Readiness and Guidance was conducted by Peacemoon Zimik, Managing Director, Career Pathfinder. He stressed the importance of preparing for a changing job market and making informed career choices. He also encouraged the youths to pursue competitive examinations and explore employment opportunities after graduation.
Dr. Thingminao Horam, Assistant Professor, Sentinel College, led a session on Introduction to Democratic Leadership and Personality Development, focusing on confidence, communication, responsibility and democratic values.
Financial awareness was addressed by Wiley YR, Social Activist, who conducted a session on Financial Literacy. Participants were introduced to basic principles of money management, savings, financial planning and responsible financial decision-making.
The programme also focused on the growing role of technology in society. Masopam Kasar, NSS Programme Officer, St. Joseph College, Ukhrul, conducted a session on Digital Literacy and Community Mobilisation and Engagement, highlighting responsible digital practices and the use of technology for community awareness and social initiatives.
The role of young people in democracy and nation-building was further explored during a session on Youth Parliament and Youth and Nation Building, conducted by Grace Dear Kasar, Assistant Professor, IGNTU, Regional Campus, Manipur.
The session encouraged participants to understand democratic institutions and recognise their role as active participants in the democratic and developmental process.
Unlike a conventional classroom programme, the BootCamp placed strong emphasis on experiential learning. Participants took part in group discussions, mock Parliament, yoga, experience-sharing and problem-solving exercises.
The mock Parliament gave participants an opportunity to experience democratic debate firsthand. They were encouraged to express their views, listen to opposing perspectives and reach decisions through discussion.
Real-life conflict situations were also used as part of the learning process. Participants analysed different scenarios and discussed possible solutions, gaining insights into communication, empathy, patience, negotiation and peaceful conflict resolution.
The residential format further strengthened interaction among the participants. Living and learning together allowed them to exchange experiences, build friendships and understand perspectives beyond their immediate surroundings.
The three-day programme ultimately went beyond lectures, combining knowledge with practical activities designed to strengthen leadership abilities, confidence and social responsibility among the youths.
Participants said the interaction with resource persons and the hands-on activities gave them greater awareness of career opportunities, financial management, democratic participation and their responsibilities towards society.
The BootCamp concluded on August 10, with the participants taking back new knowledge, experiences and perspectives aimed at helping them make informed choices and contribute more effectively to their communities.
