Imphal East, May 30: In a significant step towards modernising police station administration, the Malkhana (property storage room) of Irilbung Police Station has been upgraded and converted into an E-Malkhana system under the initiative of Shivanand Surve and Pooja Malani.
The newly introduced digital system is designed to ensure scientific storage, efficient management, and easy retrieval of case properties and exhibits. Under the E-Malkhana framework, every exhibit or property is assigned a unique barcode containing comprehensive details, including the FIR number, relevant sections of law, name of the Investigating Officer, description of the exhibits, photographs, current status, and disposal records.
Officials stated that the barcode is digitally linked to the corresponding case record, allowing police personnel to quickly identify and retrieve exhibits whenever required during investigation, prosecution, or court proceedings.
The E-Malkhana system aims to enhance systematic documentation, accountability, transparency, and proper preservation of case properties through digital record management. By reducing dependence on manual registers and streamlining record-keeping processes, the initiative is expected to improve operational efficiency and minimize the risk of misplacement or loss of evidence.
Police authorities described the development as a major advancement in scientific evidence management and a significant step towards adopting technology-driven practices in police administration. The initiative is expected to strengthen the overall management of case properties while ensuring better transparency and accountability within the policing system.
