Ukhrul, May 30: The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) extended support and solidarity to the family of the late FCI truck driver who was killed during an armed attack on a security convoy escorting stranded vehicles along the Imphal–Ukhrul route on Friday.
In a gesture of sympathy and respect, representatives of TNL presented the bereaved family with a traditional Tangkhul shawl, symbolising honour, compassion, and solidarity during their time of grief. The act was carried out as the family mourned the tragic loss of their loved one.
According to reports, the convoy, comprising stranded FCI trucks and LPG/IOCL tankers, was being escorted by a combined team of security personnel, including Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF and RAF, when it came under heavy attack near Roudei (TM Kasom) village from the Patleijang hill area.
The deceased driver, identified as Nitish Kumar (57) from Hooghly district of West Bengal, sustained critical gunshot injuries during the attack and succumbed at the scene. A police personnel attached to Litan Police Station was also injured and was shifted to JNIMS, Imphal, for medical treatment.
The Tangkhul Naga Long expressed condolences to the bereaved family and reaffirmed its commitment to standing with those affected by the ongoing violence. The presentation of the traditional shawl was described as a symbol of shared grief and humanity beyond ethnic and regional boundaries.
The incident has drawn widespread concern, with calls for ensuring the safety of civilians and transport personnel operating along vulnerable routes in the state.
