Senapati, June 6: The United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly condemned the recent mob attack on its office and denounced what it described as a campaign of intimidation and misinformation directed against the Council’s leadership.
In a press statement issued on Friday following an Emergency Presidential Council meeting held at its headquarters in Tahamzam (Senapati), the UNC expressed serious concern over the incident and the allegations circulating on various social media platforms against the Council and its President.
The Council stated that the attack on the UNC office, coupled with what it termed as “frivolous allegations” against the President and the institution, was unacceptable and contrary to democratic principles. The organization maintained that such actions amount to intimidation and misinformation, which are alien to Naga values and culture.
According to the statement, the Emergency Presidential Council took strong exception to the attempts to target the leadership of the Council and emphasized that all decisions and actions undertaken by the UNC are collective in nature. The Council asserted that its decisions are reached only after due consultation with relevant stakeholders and are not the responsibility of any single individual.
The UNC further stated that any attempt to single out or victimize its President or any particular leader for decisions taken collectively by the organization is both motivated and disrespectful to the traditions, principles, and functioning of the Council.
Reiterating its unity, the House unanimously reaffirmed its full faith and confidence in the leadership of UNC President Ng. Lorho and his team. The Council said it stands firmly behind its leadership as they continue to guide and represent the interests and aspirations of the Naga people.
The statement was issued by James Hau, Information and Publicity Secretary of the United Naga Council.
The development comes amid growing tensions surrounding recent political and organizational issues within Naga civil society circles, with the UNC calling for respect for democratic processes, collective decision-making, and the preservation of Naga cultural values.
