Amid rising tensions and deepening sorrow, Tangkhul Civil Society Organisations on Saturday organised a candlelight vigil at Ukhrul Town Hall to honour eight Naga civilians killed in what leaders described as barbaric and inhuman acts by Kuki militants.
The vigil brought together hundreds of people, young and old, standing shoulder to shoulder in solidarity with the grieving families and the larger Naga community.

The vigil was marked not only by mourning but by a renewed call for Naga unity and collective strength.
Leading the prayer service, Reverend Somi Kasomwoshi invoked God’s comfort upon the bereaved families and called for peace and justice for the Naga people.
Tangkhul Naga Long President Sword Vashum, addressing the gathering, said the killings were not just attacks on individuals but assaults on the dignity and existence of the Naga people.

He called upon all Naga communities to set aside differences and stand united in the face of adversity.
“The fallen did not die in vain. Their sacrifice must become the foundation of a stronger and united Naga future,” Vashum declared.

He maintained that the release of Kuki detainees earlier was a reflection of the Nagas’ commitment to humanity, law and justice, despite the pain inflicted upon them.
The vigil concluded with the lighting of candles and a collective pledge to uphold unity, justice and the memory of the fallen.
