Kamjong, July 2, 2026: The Huimine Thana Village Authority has strongly condemned the alleged cross-border attack in which Huimine Thana village and the Sangkalok Myanmar Refugees’ Camp were reportedly set on fire on July 1 at around 1:45 p.m.
In a condemnation and appeal issued on July 2, the village authority expressed “deepest grief, profound anguish, and strongest condemnation” over the incident, describing it as an unprovoked and barbaric attack against a peaceful civilian village. The authority alleged that the attack was carried out by the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B).
According to the statement, the incident reduced homes to ashes, displaced innocent families, destroyed years of hard-earned livelihoods, and caused immense physical, emotional and economic suffering to the affected people.
The Huimine Thana Village Authority said the attack has raised serious concerns over the safety and protection of vulnerable border villages in Kamjong district. It stated that the people of Huimine Thana have lived peacefully along the international border and deserve the full protection guaranteed under the Constitution and laws of India.
Calling the incident a grave security breach, the authority appealed to the Government of India, the Government of Manipur and all competent authorities to take immediate and decisive action.
The village authority demanded immediate deployment of security forces in the Kamjong border areas to stop incursions and protect civilian villages. It also called for a thorough investigation into the incident, immediate arrest of those responsible and prosecution under the law.
The authority further appealed for emergency relief, rehabilitation and compensation for the affected families, including food, shelter, medical care, complete reconstruction of homes and restoration of livelihoods.
It also urged the authorities to introduce long-term border security measures, including enhanced surveillance and stronger security mechanisms to protect vulnerable civilian populations from future violence.
The Huimine Thana Village Authority appealed to civil society organisations, churches, humanitarian agencies and peace-loving citizens to stand in solidarity with the affected families as they rebuild their lives from the devastating tragedy.
The statement was issued in the interest of justice, peace and the security of people living along the international border. Copies were marked to the Deputy Commissioner, Kamjong, Tangkhul Naga Long and Tangkhul Naga Zingsho Longphang.
