Ukhrul, July 25: After a tense stand-off, the four farmers from Hungpung village in Manipur’s Ukhrul district who were picked up earlier on Saturday by personnel of the 40 Assam Rifles were handed over to the Tangkhul Naga Long through the Chairman of S. Laho Village, sources said.
The handover reportedly took place at around 10:00 pm at S. Laho village following the standoff.
The four individuals have been identified as:
- Khapai Shimray Yuimung (28), son of Late Khapai Shimray Zimiksho.
- Shomi Shokchui (38), son of Machangta Shokchui.
- Hungreithei Kasomva (37), son of Noiba Kasomva.
- Khuirami KSV (36), son of Naoba KSV.
The four were reportedly detained earlier in the day while working in paddy fields near Hungpung village. Following the intervention of local leaders and a prolonged stand-off, they were handed over to the Tangkhul Naga Long through the Chairman of S. Laho Village.
An official statement from the Assam Rifles regarding the reasons for the detention was not immediately available at the time of filing this report.
