Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Khashim Vashum, has strongly condemned the killing of two innocent Tangkhul Naga travellers in an alleged militant attack along National Highway-202 near TM Kasom.
In a condemnation statement issued on Saturday, Vashum described the incident as “heinous and deliberate,” stating that the victims were targeted through indiscriminate firing while travelling from Imphal to Ukhrul.
He termed the act as “reprehensible violence against unarmed civilians” and noted that the incident occurred just a day after the Chief Minister’s peace mission visit to Ukhrul district headquarters. According to him, such violence poses a serious threat to peace and humanity and must be condemned unequivocally.
Expressing solidarity with the affected families, the MLA stressed the need for firm and lawful action. He called for the identification and accountability of those responsible through a coordinated response, adding that restoring public confidence should remain a top priority.
Vashum also extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families of Late Yaruingam Vashum of Kharasom village and Late SW Chinaoshang of Tashar village. He prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls and strength for the grieving families during this difficult time.
The incident has further heightened tensions in the region, with calls for stronger security measures and justice for the victims.
