Ukhrul, June 26, 2026: A vermi compost product titled AF Compost was formally launched in Ukhrul on Friday with the aim of supporting farmers and promoting organic farming practices in the district.
AF Compost is produced by Zingsho Mapithel CS Ltd, a Farmer Producer Organization under ARDENT FOUNDATION. The launch programme was held as part of the Foundation’s continued efforts to strengthen sustainable agriculture and improve livelihood opportunities for farmers in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.

Speaking at the programme, Dr. Rimai Joy said ARDENT FOUNDATION is a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology. He stated that the organisation has been implementing various development programmes with special focus on the upliftment and empowerment of tribal communities in Manipur.
Dr. Joy also highlighted that ARDENT FOUNDATION has a unit called AF Nursery, which raises saplings of various plants including apple, avocado, persimmon and macadamia. These saplings are made available to interested farmers at the lowest possible rate to encourage orchard farming in the state.
Emphasising the importance of organic farming, Dr. Joy said a majority of the population in the region depends on agriculture. He noted that while many farmers avoid chemical fertilisers, crops such as paddy, fruit plants and flowers still require additional manure from time to time for better growth and higher yield.
He said AF Compost, being an organic vermi compost, can serve as a complete solution for farmers seeking to improve production in paddy fields, orchards and floriculture. According to the organisers, regular use of AF Compost at least twice a year may help increase yield by up to 30 percent.
The organisers further informed that AF Compost will be made available to the public at the lowest possible rate. The product will be stocked at Eden Mart, Phungreitang West near Gandhi Chowk, and Multi Care Pharmacy, opposite UBC, Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
The organisers informed that AF Compost is available in 5 kg packs priced at ₹150 per pack. They added that around 500 kg of stock is currently available for farmers and the general public.
The vermi compost production unit was made possible with machinery support from the National Innovation Foundation (NIF), India, reflecting collaborative efforts to promote innovation-driven and environmentally friendly agriculture in the region.
Farmers have been encouraged to use AF Compost for improved yield in orchard farms, paddy fields and flower cultivation.
