mImphal, June 1: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Regional Office Imphal, under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, organised a Special Outreach Programme (SOP) on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day 2026 at St. Francis Assisi School, Nongdam (T), on May 31.
The programme aimed to create awareness among students, teachers, and the public about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and the importance of adopting a tobacco-free lifestyle.
Speaking as the resource person, Mr. Henry Zimik, a teacher, highlighted the adverse impact of tobacco and tobacco products on physical health, mental well-being, and the economy. He elaborated on how tobacco addiction affects individuals, families, and society at large, urging participants to stay away from tobacco use and contribute towards building a healthier community.
Earlier, the Principal of St. Francis Assisi School, Fr. Roshan, who attended the event as the Chief Guest, expressed gratitude to CBC Regional Office Imphal for organising the awareness programme at the school. He stated that such initiatives would greatly benefit students and educators by promoting healthy habits and informed decision-making. He further remarked that awareness campaigns of this nature would contribute significantly to nation-building and social development.
The programme featured a public meeting, interactive sessions, a quiz competition, a “No Tobacco” pledge-taking ceremony, and prize distribution for participants.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Mr. S. Rimai of CBC Regional Office Imphal acknowledged the support and cooperation extended by the school authorities and participants, which contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.
The event concluded with a collective commitment from participants to spread awareness about the dangers of tobacco and work towards a tobacco-free society.
