New Delhi, May 1: In a major price revision, oil marketing companies have sharply increased the price of commercial LPG cylinders by ₹993, effective from May 1, 2026. The steep hike primarily impacts hotels, restaurants, and other commercial establishments across the country, while domestic consumers have been spared any increase.
Following the revision, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has surged to around ₹3,071. Similar increases have been recorded across metro cities, with Mumbai witnessing prices of approximately ₹3,024, Kolkata touching around ₹3,355, and Chennai reaching about ₹3,259.50.
Despite the sharp rise in commercial LPG rates, the price of the 14.2-kg domestic cooking gas cylinder remains unchanged. In Delhi, domestic LPG continues to retail at around ₹913 per cylinder. In Mumbai, the price stands at approximately ₹912.50, while Kolkata and Chennai report rates of about ₹939 and ₹928.50 respectively.
Industry experts attribute the significant hike in commercial LPG prices to rising global energy costs and ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting fuel supply chains. This marks one of the steepest increases in recent months and is expected to put additional pressure on businesses, potentially leading to higher costs for consumers in sectors such as food and hospitality.
However, the decision to keep domestic LPG prices stable comes as a relief for households already grappling with inflationary pressures.
Further developments in global energy markets are likely to influence future price revisions.
