Imphal, May 13, 2026 — The Chief Minister of Manipur and leaders of the Naga Legislature Forum on Wednesday strongly condemned the deadly attack on civilians between Kotlen and Kotzim in Kangpokpi district that claimed three lives and left several others injured.
In an official statement, the Chief Minister described the incident as a “dastardly terror act” allegedly carried out by armed miscreants targeting a group of civilians. He stated that four persons sustained injuries in the attack, out of which three were shifted to Shija Hospitals and Research Institute for advanced medical treatment.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister L. Dikho, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, legislators and senior officials, visited the injured at the hospital and directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical care. He also announced that the State Government would bear all treatment expenses of the victims.
Calling the violence “deeply troubling and devastating,” the Chief Minister warned that such incidents could derail Manipur’s fragile path toward peace and normalcy. He appealed to all communities to exercise restraint, avoid emotional reactions, and refrain from retaliatory actions such as intimidation or abductions that could further escalate tensions.
He further assured that the government would deploy all available resources to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack and their handlers. The Chief Minister also expressed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Meanwhile, the Naga Legislature Forum issued a separate condemnation note identifying the deceased as Rev. Vumthang Sitlhou, former General Secretary of the Manipur Baptist Convention, Pastor Paogou and Pastor Kaigoulien. The Forum termed the incident a “cold-blooded murder of unarmed and peace-loving religious leaders” and urged law enforcement agencies to swiftly trace and prosecute those involved.
The Forum also extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and appealed for the safe release of civilians from both Naga and Kuki communities who were reportedly being detained amid the unrest.
The killings have heightened tensions in Kangpokpi district and other parts of Manipur, with security agencies closely monitoring the situation as investigations continue. Authorities are expected to issue further updates regarding the probe and the condition of the injured victims.
