Imphal, June 25: The Kuki Zo Council (KZC) has described the killing of six innocent Naga civilians, who were allegedly abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district on May 13, as a “big mistake” and has issued an apology to the victims’ families and the wider Naga community.
Speaking on the incident, Kuki Zo Council Chairperson Hen-lien-thang Thang-let strongly condemned the killing and expressed regret over the tragic loss of innocent lives. He stated that the act was unacceptable and apologized on behalf of the Kuki-Zo community.
At the same time, Thang-let maintained that the incident occurred in the aftermath of heightened tensions and emotions following the killing of three pastors in Kangpokpi district on the same day. According to him, the tragic sequence of events contributed to an atmosphere of anger and retaliation, ultimately leading to the wrongful targeting of the six civilians.
The abduction and subsequent killing of the six Naga civilians had triggered widespread condemnation across Manipur, with civil society organizations, tribal bodies, and community leaders demanding justice and accountability for those responsible.
The Kuki Zo Council’s statement is being viewed as a significant acknowledgment of the tragedy, although calls for a thorough investigation and legal action against the perpetrators continue from various quarters.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, while community leaders have urged all sides to maintain peace and prevent further escalation of tensions in the region.
