New Delhi, June 26, 2026: The Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD) has strongly rejected the recent statement issued by the Kuki-Zo Council in connection with the killing of six Naga civilians who were reportedly taken hostage and later killed by Kuki armed groups.
In a press statement issued from New Delhi, NSUD said the statement of the Kuki-Zo Council could not be considered a genuine apology, nor did it reflect a clear acceptance of responsibility for what it described as an “egregious and inhumane act.” The Union alleged that the statement appeared to rationalise and justify the incident rather than acknowledge the gravity of the crime.
NSUD also condemned certain remarks allegedly made by representatives of the Kuki-Zo Council, including the term “Katcha Nagas,” stating that such expressions were derogatory and amounted to an attack on the dignity, historical legacy and cultural identity of the Naga people.
Questioning the timing and intent of the Kuki-Zo Council’s statement, the Union said that a mere apology was not enough to absolve those responsible for the killings. It asserted that any genuine apology must be followed by accountability, identification and prosecution of those involved in the abduction and killing of the innocent civilians.
The Union further sought clarification on whether the apology was issued on behalf of those directly involved in the incident or whether the Kuki-Zo Council had any association with the alleged crime.
Calling upon the Government to act with urgency, NSUD said the rule of law must be allowed to take its course without compromise. The Union also reiterated that the Charter of Demands submitted by the United Naga Council must be fulfilled in full in order for justice to be realised.
Expressing solidarity with the families of the six victims and all those affected by the conflict, NSUD said truth, respect for identity, accountability and adherence to the rule of law were essential for any genuine reconciliation.
