Ukhrul, May 30: The Tangkhul Naga Aze Longphang (TNAL), also known as the Southern Tangkhul Naga Union, has strongly condemned what it described as “barbaric acts of violence” allegedly perpetrated by Kuki armed groups, including the killing of civilians and repeated gun violence in Naga-inhabited areas.
In a condemnation statement issued on Saturday, TNAL referred to the recent attack that took place on May 29 at around 11 a.m. near Yaolen village along National Highway-202, where armed assailants allegedly ambushed vehicles and opened indiscriminate fire on Food Corporation of India (FCI) trucks transporting essential commodities.

According to the union, the incident claimed the life of Nitish Kumar (57), a truck driver from Hooghly district in West Bengal, who was reportedly driving vehicle registration number WB15C-2403. A Manipur Police personnel attached to Litan Police Station also sustained serious injuries in the attack.
TNAL alleged that the firing occurred in close proximity to security personnel and accused the attackers of targeting vehicles carrying essential supplies along the Imphal–Ukhrul–Kamjong lifeline.
The union further alleged that armed assailants opened fire on villagers of TM Kasom while they were reportedly digging a grave for a burial ceremony, terming the act as an affront to human dignity and funeral sanctity.
Additionally, TNAL claimed that sophisticated weapons were allegedly fired towards civilian areas in Litan, creating panic among residents and forcing people to flee for safety.
Describing the incidents as “cowardly acts of violence” against peace-loving civilians, service providers and commuters, TNAL urged the concerned authorities to take immediate and effective measures to ensure the safety and security of all road users.
The organisation stressed that NH-202 remains a vital lifeline connecting Imphal with Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, and called for adequate deployment of security personnel along the highway to prevent further attacks and ensure uninterrupted movement of people and essential goods.
TNAL also demanded stringent legal action against those responsible for violence, unlawful blockades and disruptions to the supply of essential commodities.
The statement was issued under the signature of Worreingam Phungthar, General Secretary, TNAL.
