The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has issued a strong clarification denying any involvement in the deadly ambush on two vehicles carrying Kuki civilians between Kotlen and Kotzim areas in Kangpokpi district on Wednesday, an attack that left several civilians dead and others critically injured.
In a press release issued on May 13, 2026, by the Ministry of Information and Publicity of the organisation from its headquarters at Dilung, the ZUF stated that it had learned “with deep shock and concern” about the tragic ambush carried out on civilians travelling through the area.

According to the statement, the attack targeted two vehicles carrying Kuki civilians between Kotlen and Kotzim in Kangpokpi district, resulting in the death of several innocent civilians while others sustained critical injuries. The organisation expressed sorrow over the incident and the loss of innocent lives.
The ZUF, however, categorically denied any role in the attack and rejected allegations circulating in certain sections of the public and on social media linking the organisation to the ambush. The statement specifically referred to accusations and suspicions allegedly circulated by the Kuki Inpi Manipur, which the organisation described as “completely baseless, unfounded and misleading.”
Clarifying its stand, the ZUF asserted that the organisation was neither aware of nor connected in any manner with the attack. It maintained that attempts to associate the organisation with the ambush without factual proof were irresponsible and could aggravate the already tense situation prevailing in the state.
The statement further appealed to civil society organisations, community leaders and the media fraternity to exercise restraint and avoid spreading unverified information or making premature accusations in the absence of concrete evidence. The organisation cautioned that misinformation and speculation at such a sensitive time could unnecessarily inflame tensions and create further misunderstanding among communities.
The clarification from the ZUF comes amid heightened tension following the deadly firing incident reported earlier in the day between Kotlen and Kotzim areas in Kangpokpi district. According to reports, unidentified armed assailants allegedly opened fire on vehicles carrying church leaders and civilians travelling from Churachandpur towards Kangpokpi after attending a church-related meeting.
