Ukhrul, June 19, 2026: Khanuithot-Khon, Voice of the Naga Youth, has strongly condemned the alleged kidnapping of three Tangkhul passengers at Mongkot-Chepu along National Highway-202 on Thursday morning.
In a statement issued by its Media and Info Cell, Khanuithot-Khon alleged that the incident took place at around 8:30 a.m. when security forces were escorting passengers travelling from Ukhrul to Imphal. Among those travelling were three Tangkhul men who were reportedly on their way to Imphal for medical treatment.
According to the organisation, around 20 armed Kuki individuals were stationed along the route at Mongkot-Chepu and were allegedly collecting illegal taxes. The statement claimed that the three Tangkhul passengers were stopped and taken captive while their vehicle was moving behind the security convoy.
Khanuithot-Khon alleged that the captors threatened the passengers and were preparing to take them to a Kuki camp before police intervention. The organisation said the timely action of Litan Police Station, led by its Officer-in-Charge, helped rescue the passengers before the situation could escalate further.
Praising the Litan OC, Khanuithot-Khon said his “professionalism, vigilance and commitment” prevented harm to innocent civilians. The organisation urged security personnel deployed along the highway to discharge their duties impartially and courageously in the interest of peace, justice and public safety.
The youth body also appealed to central security forces not to ignore alleged illegal taxation and kidnapping activities along NH-202. It urged authorities to ensure the safety of travellers and prevent any attempt to abduct passengers within Naga areas.
Khanuithot-Khon further expressed concern over previous incidents involving the kidnapping and killing of six Nagas, stating that such incidents continue to pose a serious threat to the safety and security of the Naga people.
The organisation reminded the Government of India and central security forces that they must take responsibility for preventing any similar incidents in the future and for ensuring the protection of innocent civilians travelling through vulnerable areas.
