July 23: The Working Committee of the Joint Tribes Council Manipur (JTC) has announced a sweeping non-cooperation movement against the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) after strongly condemning the alleged attack on Naga Village Guards (NVG) in Inpui-inhabited Bituang Village, Noney district.
In a resolution adopted during an emergency meeting held on Thursday, the JTC described the July 22 attack as a direct assault on the security, sovereignty and collective dignity of the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme communities. The council accused the armed group of betraying the trust and support extended by the four tribes over the years.
According to the JTC, armed members of the ZUF allegedly attacked the Naga Village Guard at around 7:20 a.m. on July 22 at Bituang Village. The council stated that the NVG has been playing a vital role in protecting ancestral lands from external threats and safeguarding the territorial interests of the four Zeliangrong tribes.
The council further alleged that the ZUF has been operating in collusion with “outsider and Narco terrorist Kuki forces,” accusing the group of facilitating attacks, encroachments and violence against Naga communities. It also referred to the recent killing and mutilation of six Naga individuals, describing the incident as part of a growing pattern of aggression.
Following extensive deliberations, the Working Committee unanimously resolved that the ZUF would no longer receive any form of cooperation from the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme communities.
The resolution declares a complete political, social and logistical boycott of the organisation. It also warns that any attempt to intimidate individuals, community leaders or organisations will be met with united action by members of all four tribes.
The JTC further stated that no additional warning would be issued against any group or organisation engaging in activities that threaten the territorial jurisdiction of the four communities.
At the same time, the council appealed to all Naga organisations and communities to stand in solidarity with the four tribes and support the Naga Village Guard in protecting their ancestral territories. It stressed that any organisation defending the territorial integrity of the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme people would receive the full backing of the four communities.
Describing the resolution as “final and binding,” the JTC called upon all community members to remain vigilant, united and steadfast in enforcing the decision.
“The resolution is not taken lightly but is a necessary measure to protect our people, our territory and our collective dignity,” the council stated, urging all right-thinking organisations and individuals to respect the decision and support the collective stand of the four tribes.
