Imphal, July 29: India’s leading test preparation institute, Aakash Educational Services Limited (AESL), on Wednesday inaugurated its first coaching centre in Manipur and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Assam Rifles to provide scholarships, fee concessions and academic support to personnel and their families.
The announcements were made during a press conference in Imphal, marking AESL’s entry into Manipur and expanding its presence across the North-East.
The newly inaugurated centre, located at Thaoroijam in Imphal West near Heaven Garden, is spread across 8,000 square feet and features five classrooms with a capacity to accommodate more than 300 students. It will offer classroom coaching for NEET, IIT-JEE, and other medical and engineering entrance examinations.
The Imphal centre becomes AESL’s ninth institute in the North-East, joining its existing centres in Agartala, Dimapur, Guwahati, Kamrup, Nagaon, Silchar, Jorhat and Dibrugarh.
The institute said the new centre will enable students from Manipur to access quality entrance coaching within the state, reducing the need to relocate to other cities for competitive examination preparation.
Alongside the inauguration, AESL signed a long-term MoU with Assam Rifles to establish an educational welfare programme for serving and retired personnel and their families.
Under the agreement, families of personnel who died in service will receive a 100 per cent tuition fee waiver, excluding registration and admission charges. Gallantry award recipients and personnel with more than 20 per cent disability will receive a 90 per cent tuition fee concession, while those with less than 20 per cent disability will be eligible for a 50 per cent waiver.
Serving and retired Assam Rifles personnel, along with staff and students of Assam Rifles Public Schools, will also receive up to a 30 per cent reduction in tuition fees.
The initiative also includes career counselling seminars, dedicated academic mentoring, student support services and fee protection for students transferred within the North-East due to official postings.
AESL noted that similar agreements have already been signed with the Indian Army, CRPF, BSF and ITBP.
Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director and CEO Chandra Sekhar Garissa Reddy said the opening of the Imphal centre reflects the organisation’s commitment to making quality test preparation more accessible across the region.
He added that the collaboration with Assam Rifles is aimed at supporting the educational aspirations of defence families by providing quality academic opportunities closer to home.
AESL, part of the Manipal Education and Medical Group, currently operates more than 415 coaching centres across India and serves over 400,000 students preparing for medical, engineering and other competitive examinations.
