Ukhrul, June 4: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has expressed deep concern over the continued uncertainty surrounding the fate of six Naga hostages abducted on May 13, 2026, and announced plans for intensified democratic agitation after what it described as the government’s failure to provide any concrete information despite the expiry of an earlier ultimatum. In a press release issued on Thursday, ANSAM stated that an emergency assembly convened on June 3 at Ukhrul District Headquarters, hosted by Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), reviewed the prevailing situation and deliberated on the next course of action. The assembly noted with disappointment that no credible information regarding the safety, whereabouts, or condition of the six hostages has been made available to their families or the Naga public. According to the association, the prolonged silence and lack of visible progress have heightened anxiety among the affected families and the wider Naga community.

Reaffirming the resolution of its Presidential Council, ANSAM reiterated its demand that the Government of Manipur establish the condition and location of the six hostages allegedly abducted by the Kuki National Front (Presidential) [KNF(P)] from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13 and ensure their safe return. As part of its next phase of protest, the assembly resolved to launch an intensified agitation beginning with a march towards Imphal via National Highway-202 on June 4. Members of the association are scheduled to meet the families of the six hostages at Makhan village before proceeding with the demonstration. The association also acknowledged the need for broader consultation within the Naga community regarding its previously announced decision to boycott the state government. It resolved to endorse the ANSAM Executive Council and its constituent units to engage in intensive consultations with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of future actions. Further, ANSAM announced the formation of an action committee to address the prevailing situation in Naga areas. The committee will be constituted by the Executive Council and will include former leaders of the association. Warning against any disruption of the planned democratic march along the Imphal–Ukhrul Road (NH-202), ANSAM stated that the Central and State Governments would be held responsible for any untoward incidents. Reiterating its commitment to peaceful and democratic means of protest, the association said it would continue its efforts until justice is delivered and the six hostages are safely reunited with their families. The press release was jointly signed by ANSAM President Th. Angteshang Maring and General Secretary Isaac Charenamei.
