Imphal, May 30: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), in coordination with Joint Kuki-Zo Civil Society Organisations, tribal bodies, and student organisations, has announced the temporary suspension of the total shutdown that had been enforced across Kuki-Zo-inhabited districts.

The decision came after a series of discussions with the Government on May 29 and 30, during which, according to KIM, positive developments and assurances were received concerning issues affecting the Kuki-Zo community.
In a statement released on Saturday, KIM said the suspension takes effect immediately and has been made as a gesture of goodwill and cooperation aimed at maintaining peace and facilitating administrative processes. The organisation stated that the move reflects its commitment to law and order while allowing the Government time and opportunity to address the concerns raised by the community.
KIM emphasized that the temporary relaxation of the shutdown should not be construed as a dilution of the Kuki-Zo people’s demands or aspirations. Instead, it described the decision as a responsible and constructive measure taken in the broader public interest.
The apex body noted that the Kuki-Zo people have demonstrated patience, restraint, and cooperation despite enduring prolonged hardships. It expressed hope that the Government would respond positively by taking concrete and visible steps towards justice, accountability, and resolution of the issues under discussion.
At the same time, KIM cautioned that failure on the part of the Government to act meaningfully during the suspension period could lead to the resumption and intensification of the shutdown, along with other democratic forms of protest.
The organisation asserted that any consequences arising from governmental inaction would rest solely with the authorities. It further reaffirmed that the community’s movement would continue until adequate security, justice, and safeguards are ensured for the Kuki-Zo people.
KIM also conveyed its appreciation to the public for their unity, discipline, and steadfast support throughout the shutdown, describing the collective effort as a reflection of the community’s determination and solidarity.
