Ukhrul, April 24, 2026: Tension has escalated in Ukhrul district following the killing of a Naga Village Guard (NVG) member, Horshokmi Jamang, in an ambush near Sinakeithei village during the early hours of Friday.
According to a clarion call issued by the Office of the Central Command, Naga Village Guard, Horshokmi Jamang, aged 29 and son of Lungshim Jamang from Chatric Khullen village in Kamjong district, was killed while on patrol duty. The NVG stated that a section of its personnel stationed at Sirarakhong village had been conducting patrols following repeated attacks on Sinakeithei village and reports of tactical movement by Kuki armed cadres operating under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the Government of India.
The NVG alleged that the ambush was carried out by Kuki armed cadres under SoO near Sinakeithei village, resulting in Jamang’s death. The organization strongly condemned the attack and described the incident as a serious challenge to the safety and identity of the Naga people.
In its statement, the NVG paid tribute to Horshokmi Jamang, calling him “a man of valour and devoted patriotic Naga” who laid down his life defending his ancestral land. The Central Command extended condolences to the bereaved family and noted that he is survived by his wife and a child of 10 months.
Reaffirming its commitment, the NVG stated that it would continue to defend Naga land and identity without compromise and declared that it would not retreat or surrender to adversaries.
The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Ukhrul Headquarters, also issued a press communiqué expressing profound sadness over Jamang’s death. The TNL stated that armed Kuki cadres under SoO, along with other Kuki militant groups, were responsible for the ambush during the patrol between Sirarakhong and Sinakeithei.
The committee described Jamang’s death as a sacrifice made in defense of rightful land and praised his bravery and valor. It extended sincere condolences to the grieving family and honored his ultimate sacrifice.
The incident has further intensified concerns over security and ethnic tensions in the region, with both organizations appealing to Naga youth and communities to remain united in defending their land, identity, and people.
“Now or never,” the NVG stated in its appeal, calling upon Naga youth across the globe to come forward and join what it described as a noble fight for their homeland.
