Senapati, May 18, 2026: The Naga Women’s Union has strongly condemned the alleged abduction of indigenous Naga civilians from Leilon Vaiphei village near Leimakhong Army Centre on May 13, 2026, and demanded the immediate rescue and safe return of the remaining six abducted persons.
In a press release issued on Monday, the Union expressed serious concern over the continued captivity of six individuals out of the 18 hostages, including women and a child, allegedly abducted by suspected members of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) group, Kuki National Front (KNF-P).
The missing persons were identified as Dr. Rev. Manu, Pastor Kenpibou, Dilip Thiumai, Kaliwangbou, Phenrongwibou Thiumai, and Ch. Phenrilungbou. The Union stated that the fate and whereabouts of the abducted persons remain unknown, causing deep distress among their families and the wider Naga community.
The organization also raised concerns over what it described as a major security failure in the Leimakhong region, noting that the abduction reportedly took place close to several security establishments, including the 57 Mountain Division, CRPF camp, Gorkha Regiment gate, and Assam Rifles deployments.
According to the statement, the inability of security forces to prevent such an incident despite a heavy security presence has raised serious questions regarding civilian protection and accountability in the region.
The Union further demanded the immediate abrogation of the SoO agreement with the militant group allegedly involved in the incident. It claimed that Leilon Vaiphei village and nearby Leimakhong areas have become hotspots of violence and insecurity since the outbreak of the conflict in May 2023.
Calling upon both the Manipur Government and the Central Government to intensify rescue efforts, the Union urged authorities to use all professional mechanisms and available resources to ensure the safe return of the abducted civilians without harm.
The organization also demanded the arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the alleged abduction, including militants, accomplices, and abettors, under appropriate legal provisions.
In its appeal, the Naga Women’s Union urged the authorities to:
- Ensure the immediate rescue and safe return of the six abducted persons;
- Launch a thorough investigation into the hostage-taking incident;
- Arrest and prosecute all militants, accomplices, and abettors involved;
- Deliver justice to all victims affected by the violence and terror activities.
Reiterating its stand against violence, the Union stated that no armed group or individual should be allowed to undermine human dignity, civilian safety, and the rule of law through acts of terror and intimidation.
