Ukhrul, May 15, 2026 — The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), the apex Tangkhul students’ body, has appealed to the Delhi Police to intervene and prevent a proposed protest announced by the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Delhi & NCR, alleging that the demonstration could disturb communal harmony and public peace. In a statement issued under reference number 19/TKS/2026, the TKS cited provisions of the Delhi Police Act, 1978, asserting that authorities are empowered to regulate or prohibit assemblies and activities likely to incite communal tension or disrupt law and order.
The organisation urged the Delhi Police and concerned authorities to take “immediate cognizance” of the planned protest and critically examine the circulated protest materials and intended demonstrations, which it alleged could amount to communal provocation, defamation, and incitement. The TKS further stated that the prevailing ethnic situation and the potential risk of public disorder warrant preventive action under the law. It maintained that authorities have the power to impose conditions or prohibit gatherings that may lead to communal disharmony, breach of peace, or threats to public order.
The student body also called upon KSO Delhi & NCR to withdraw the proposed protest and refrain from making what it termed “defamatory and inflammatory” allegations against the Tangkhul community without evidence. Emphasising the role of student organisations in promoting peace and reconciliation, the TKS said such bodies should serve as instruments of responsible dialogue rather than vehicles for hatred, misinformation, and ethnic polarisation.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong’s commitment to justice, truth, lawful accountability, and peaceful coexistence among all communities. Meanwhile, a protest poster attached to the statement indicated that the KSO Delhi & NCR plans to hold a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on May 16, demanding justice for the killing of three pastors and calling for a separate administration for Kuki-Zo communities.
