Imphal, July 3, 2026: Manipur Police on Friday said the overall law-and-order situation in the State remained normal during the last 24 hours, even as security forces continued search operations and area domination in fringe and vulnerable areas.
According to a press note issued by the Police Control Room, Manipur Police, intelligence-based combing, cordon and search operations are being carried out extensively across the State to arrest persons involved in extortion and other criminal activities.
Security forces arrested two PLA cadres on July 1 from the proximity of BP-86 under Tengnoupal Police Station. They were identified as Laishram Henry Singh, 25, of Khangabok Sorokwangma Part-I and Soibam Quinton Singh, 19, of Keirembikhok Mamang Leikai, both from Thoubal district.
On July 3, Manipur Police also arrested Ningthoujam Angkanba Meitei, 27, of Awang Naringbam from his residence in Imphal East district for his alleged involvement in looting the armoury of MPTC, Pangei in 2023 and firing at a residential site at Tangkham Awang Leikai.
In another operation, security forces arrested two active cadres of RPF/PLA from their residences. They were identified as Ningthoujam Gulson Singh alias Bhubon, 36, of Naharup Pangong Makhong, described as an extortionist active cadre of RPF/PLA, and S. Lieutenant N. Surjit Singh alias Kaka alias Koko, 41, of Kakwa Ningom Thongjao, Imphal West, stated to be Finance Secretary of RPF/PLA, Imphal West.
Police said arms and ammunition were recovered from one of them, including a .32 pistol with magazine, a 12-bore DBBL gun, one SBBL gun, two rounds of 12-bore cartridges and a STEYR M9-A1 pistol with magazine loaded with six live rounds.
Security forces also arrested an active cadre of KCP (PWG), identified as Ongabam Deni Singh alias Bony, 40, of Langathel Keithel Macha, Thoubal district, from IVR Langathel Khongjom Road area under Khongjom Police Station.
In a separate anti-drug operation on July 2, Manipur Police arrested three residents of Churachandpur district from their respective residences under Churachandpur Police Station and seized contraband and other incriminating items. The arrested persons were identified as Zamngaihian Tombing, 48, of Zion Veng, New Lamka, Niangngaihching, 43, of Pangzawl, and Manglunsang Tawtak, 36, of Pangzawl.
Police said the seized items included 186 soap cases of suspected Brown Sugar weighing approximately 2.5 kg, cash amounting to ₹31,43,500, a white Bolero bearing registration number MN-06LX-5142, and a cash-counting machine.
The press note further stated that movement of 150 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-37 was ensured. Security measures have been taken in vulnerable locations, while security convoy is being provided in sensitive stretches to ensure free and safe movement of vehicles.
A total of 113 nakas/checkpoints were also installed across different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and valley areas.
Police appealed to the public not to believe rumours and to remain vigilant against false videos. It said the authenticity of any circulating video, audio clip or image may be verified from the Central Control Room at 9233522822. The public was also cautioned that uploading and circulating fake posts on social media would attract legal action.
