Lamka/Imphal, June 5: Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body representing the Kuki tribes in Manipur, has strongly condemned what it described as a “barbaric attack” allegedly carried out by cadres of NSCN-IM and its proxy group ZUF (K) at Loibol Khullen village in Kangpokpi district.
In a press statement issued from its secretariat on Friday, KIM alleged that the attack took place at around 4:00 a.m. and resulted in the killing of three civilians and the destruction of several houses. The organization claimed that the victims were identified as Letkhongam Haokip, Mrs. Tinmary Haokip, and Jangminal Haokip, all residents of Loibol Khullen village.
According to KIM, seven houses were reduced to ashes during the incident, while substantial damage was also inflicted on civilian properties. The organization described the attack as a deliberate act targeting innocent villagers and condemned the loss of civilian lives and destruction of homes.
“The deliberate killing of innocent persons and the destruction of homes and livelihoods constitute a serious violation of human dignity and fundamental human rights,” the statement said, adding that violence against unarmed civilians can never be justified under any circumstances.
KIM expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and conveyed solidarity with the affected residents of Loibol Khullen. The organization stated that the tragedy has caused immense grief within the Kuki-Zo community and extended prayers for all those affected by the incident.
Calling for immediate intervention, KIM urged the Government of India and security agencies to launch a comprehensive investigation into the incident, identify and apprehend those responsible, and ensure that justice is delivered without delay.
The apex tribal body also appealed to authorities to take urgent steps to strengthen security arrangements in vulnerable villages and prevent further attacks on innocent civilians. It stressed that protecting civilian lives and properties must remain a priority amid the continuing tensions in the region.
“The perpetrators of this heinous crime must be held fully accountable, and every effort must be made to uphold the rule of law and protect the lives and properties of innocent people,” the statement added.
KIM further stated that it would not be held responsible for any consequences arising from what it termed as a heinous crime committed against its people.
The statement was signed by Janghaolun Haokip, Secretary, Information and Publicity, Kuki Inpi Manipur.
The allegations made in the statement could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report, and there was no immediate response available from the groups named in the allegations.
