Ukhrul, June 6: In a significant demonstration of Naga solidarity and collective responsibility, a high-level delegation of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), led by its President Mteisuding Heraang, visited Ukhrul district to assess the prevailing situation and express solidarity with the Tangkhul people amid the ongoing challenges faced by the community.
The delegation comprised nine NSF office bearers, ten senior leaders, and representatives from seven federating units, namely the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU), Angami Students’ Union (ASU), All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK), Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), Pochury Students’ Union (PSU), Zeliangrong Students’ Union (Nagaland), and Rengma Students’ Union (RSU).
The visit was marked by a strong message of unity and brotherhood among the Naga people, transcending political and administrative boundaries. Reiterating the shared identity of the Naga people, the delegation declared:
“Nagas are one by blood, one by history, and one in destiny, irrespective of the artificial boundaries imposed upon our homeland.”
The statement reflected the Federation’s belief that despite the division of Naga-inhabited areas across different states and administrative jurisdictions, the historical, cultural, and emotional bonds that unite the Naga people remain unbroken.
According to the delegation, the visit was not merely a goodwill mission but a reaffirmation of the collective spirit and shared destiny of the Naga people. At a time when sections of the Naga community continue to face uncertainty and difficulties, the NSF sought to convey a message that no Naga community stands alone in its struggles and aspirations.
During the visit, the delegation held extensive consultations with the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and other apex Tangkhul organisations to understand the prevailing situation on the ground and exchange views on matters affecting the Naga people.
The NSF team also visited the office of the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), where meaningful discussions were held with student leaders and representatives on issues concerning the welfare, rights, and future of the Naga people. The deliberations reportedly focused on strengthening unity among Naga communities and addressing challenges collectively through dialogue, cooperation, and mutual support.
As a tangible expression of solidarity, the NSF delegation handed over relief materials intended for people affected by the ongoing situation. The assistance included:
- 50 bags of rice
- 21 bags of potatoes
- 21 bags of dal (lentils)
While the relief materials will provide immediate support to affected families, leaders noted that the significance of the contribution extends beyond its material value. The assistance symbolized the spirit of brotherhood, shared responsibility, and the commitment of the wider Naga community to stand together during times of adversity.
The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), while acknowledging the gesture, expressed profound gratitude to the NSF leadership, its federating units, senior leaders, and all members of the delegation for undertaking the journey to Ukhrul and demonstrating their solidarity with the people.
In a statement, TKS said the visit had strengthened the morale of the people and reaffirmed a deeply rooted Naga principle that the suffering of one community is shared by the entire Naga family.
“Your visit has reaffirmed a truth deeply embedded in the Naga spirit: when one part of the Naga family suffers, the entire Naga nation responds,” the organisation stated.
The student body further observed that the presence of the delegation served as a reminder of the enduring bonds that connect Naga communities across geographical and political boundaries. It noted that such acts of solidarity continue to strengthen the collective identity and aspirations of the Naga people.
Observers described the visit as a powerful symbol of Naga unity, particularly at a time when communities across the region are navigating complex social and political challenges. The interaction between the NSF delegation and Tangkhul civil society organisations highlighted the importance of maintaining close ties among Naga tribes and institutions in pursuit of common goals.
The NSF delegation’s journey from Nagaland to Ukhrul was widely viewed as more than an official visit. It was seen as a living testament to the resilience of Naga brotherhood and a reaffirmation that, despite political divisions and administrative boundaries, the Naga people remain united in thought, united in purpose, and united in destiny.
The visit concluded with renewed commitments from both the NSF and Tangkhul organisations to continue fostering unity, cooperation, and mutual support among all Naga communities while working collectively for the welfare and future of the Naga people.
